Grass Hockey | return

Grass hockey was invented in c.1991 and incorporated into the game sometime in the early 1990s. Grass hockey is similar to field hockey, though blocking and checking from the front is allowed. Wiffle bats are often used in place of hockey sticks, though both plastic and wooden hockey sticks are used. In place of a puck is a wiffle ball, often with tape around it, usually masking tape. In the 1990s, the game had a much more violent culture, but this was toned down when the game was brought back in 2025.

There are no boundaries, so play is continued even if the ball is away from the regular field of play. If a player shoots or passes a ball that goes more than half of the field's length from the closest player, a grassing penalty is called. This and all other penalties, such as high sticking and illegal contact result in a penalty shot. Once the timer expires, the last play is finished. The last play continues until a goalie or acting goalie gains possession of the ball in their hand. Grass hockey uses the same age related scoring as soccer, which was adopted the first game in 2025. In the original variant of the game, penalties usually resulted in a face off rather than a penalty shot unless it was severe. It is unknown if there were boundaries in the original game.
