Shakala Sonics | return

The Shakala Sonics, possibly the Shakala SuperSonics, were a minor basketball team during the City era owned by Shane Elliot. They are represented as the Shakala Zulus in the video game Neighborhood Conflict Sequel. They are best known for reaching the final in either 1993 or 1994 to play against the R.O.K. Bombers. Prior the match Shane printed and spent exhorbitant amounts of Shakala dollars in order to sign the tallest available players. The final took place in Shakala, and the Sonics had 3 times the players as the Bombers because they were able to sign both Reginald Goldstein and Kent Luxtari before the game. The Bombers were low on players that day, especially because Kent usually played for them. The game was initially close but the Sonics were able to gain a considerable lead. The competition remained extremely tense and the Bombers were able to make a comeback late in the game, however the Sonics retook the lead and then stole the ball the final play. In the final seconds a player of the Sonics lost possession of the ball, and Scottie Smith was able to clear it and make a 3-pointer with 3 Sonics' players in his face to win the game. Shane was very upset because not only did his team lose the final, but the country of Shakala was previously already having trouble with inflation and were finally getting it under control, and the cost of this match sent the currency back into a downward spiral.
