Austin dollar | return
The Austin dollar (possibly the Austin peso) was the currency of the city-state of Austin, which was ruled by Antonio Adams. In the game Neighborhood Conflict Sequel, it will be represented by the Ustyn peso. Austin's currency was created from pre-cut paper that Antonio's father acquired through his job. Demand for Austin's currency was high, and when Antonio got tired of drawing it, he sold bundles of blank bills and allowed others to draw it themselves. Due to this method of issuance, Austin really didn't profit much from seigniorage; this benefit was mostly bestowed upon those that were able to acquire the most blank bills from Antonio. This obviously caused much inflation and eventually resulted in the currency being banned in several countries or not accepted by private businesses. Inflation was eventually fixed when Scottie Smith, seeing the benefits the currency offered, decided to ban high denomination bills throughout the Republic of Kelm instead of banning all Austin currency. Austin currency quickly reentered circulation, and this is the reason for the low denomination of the only surviving bill. During its peak inflation, bills exceeding 1,000,000 Austin dollars were common. The typical Austin bill featured the number of the denomination of the bill in each corner with a hand-drawn image of Antonio Adams' face in the middle. At the bottom of the bill was usually the year in numerical format or the denomination of the bill spelled out. But as shown in the only surviving bill, there were several variations of this, especially because the currency was not drawn by 1 source like all other bills of the time. Details were usually drawn using pencils or 1 of the 3 common colours of pens, though other colours and writing utensils were also used. The Austin dollar was surprisingly robust because businesses valued its convenience despite its obvious shortcoming. The Austin dollar, or whatever it was called, truly has a unique place in the history of currency.
