The City era refers to the original years of MicroCiv from 1989 to 1996, when the game was known as City. During this time, scores were not kept track of, and battles were fought physically. There were also a few smaller rule differences. From 1989 to the middle of 1996, City was played in the same neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods. In 1996, the Smith household with Scottie of Jonesland moved across town, which was the beginning of the end of the City era. By the end of the year, the game was completely inactive. There were plans to revive it in 1997, but they never came to fruition.
